Tennessee is serious antiquing country from one end to the other. Nashville has evolved into one of the South's most dynamic antique markets, with a strong dealer corridor on the south side of the city and considerable depth in surrounding neighborhoods. Memphis brings a different energy, shaped by Delta blues culture and a rich tradition of mid-century furniture and vintage Americana. Tennessee's greatest strength may be what lies between the cities — towns like Murfreesboro, Lebanon, Cookeville, and Sweetwater have shops with strong inventory and far less competition than the urban markets. In East Tennessee, Knoxville and the surrounding valley towns offer excellent Appalachian folk art, primitives, and early American furniture. Tennessee has a particularly well-developed antique mall culture — large, well-organized multi-dealer facilities are common statewide and consistently worth a stop.
